Welcome to Stadi Za Maisha
Stadi za Maisha Educational Trust (SZMET) is a faith based Charity that is dedicated to the well being of children and youth education in Kenya. Started 2006, by a small group of six people led by Father Richard J. Quinn, Maryknoll Missionary (MM) who has lived in Africa for over46 years. The overall goal for starting Stadi za Maisha Trust was to empower vulnerable members in our communities and hence give them a new lease of life. The Trust is registered under the provisions of Trust Perpetual Succession ACT (Cap 164 Laws of Kenya).SZMET has supplemented the efforts of the Ministries of Education(MOE), Youth and Sports by advocating and enhancing positive behavior change through training in Life Skills and Living Values, Promotion of Peace Education, Identification and Placement of Gifted and Talented Young persons and Parents Literacy in non formal settlement in Kenya.
What we do
SZMET works in collaboration with local communities, schools and other local organizations in offering alternative education programs to supplement the national education curriculum through working closely with the Ministry of Education by providing quality and inclusive education. We also work closely with the Kenyan Vision 2030 Secretariat through various activities that would promote Kenya to the next level in line with the Vision 2030 goals. Our work include Research on topical educational issues, Information supplementary support materials, Capacity building, re-integration of adult youths back to school, Development of Talent and Advocacy. These initiatives are geared improving quality of education by reducing poverty, literacy and numeracy among children and youth, children and youth with disability, teachers and parents.Where we work
SZMET operates nationally with its target audience being local communities ie schools both formal and non formal, churches and mosques. We strive to make our programs relevant to the communities where we operate.
How we do it
We deliver our programs by involving the government, local communities both religious and non religious structures where appropriate, in a transparent and co-operative manner that emphasizes collaboration rather than instruction. Our commitment is “Working Together to Promote the Development of Young People’s well being for a Better World”.To fulfill its mission, SZMET organizes its work under six broad components:
- Developing high quality innovative programs to fulfill educational needs of our learners in the communities where we work,
- Advocating and promoting better polices in the area of education,
- Developing relationships and networking with local / international stakeholders as well as donors and other NGOs working in the field.
- Promotion of programs ownership in the communities,
- Building and sustained organization that is open, free fair, transparent and accountable.
- Dissemination of programs reports widely within the key stakeholders.
